Do siblings understand?

Unfortunately there is often a denial or lack of understanding in some family members and no matter how hard it is for the individual concerned, their minds are closed and there is nothing that you can do. Sadly within some families denial or lack of understanding and support tends to distance the person with Asperger Syndrome from family members concerned. There also can be a focus on the negative traits or expectations of the person with Asperger Syndrome and then criticism if the person with Asperger Syndrome is not able to conform or reach expectations. I find the younger generations are starting to except Asperger Syndrome but the older ones and the peer group I belong to, just don't except or understand it unfortunately. It really gets annoying to have to deal with people who have closed minds and no matter how hard you try, it is like beating your head against a brick wall. Some of the adults I know deal with sibling ignorance or obtain no support from family members concerned and they just give up on trying. If we are to reach the minds and hearts of siblings and other members of the family, then we need to reach people when their minds are open rather than when their hearts and minds are closed.
